ATTENTION GROUP OWNERS - Regarding Notifications

If you are the owner/administrator of a group I wanted to let you know of a global change that is going into effect. When email notifications go live one of the notifications that is turned on by default is that each time someone posts in your group a notice is emailed to each member. For some groups this will be a LOT of emails (i.e., each time someone posts to the Bonfire) and the members may not want to get 50 responses to a post via email.
For this reason I am setting the system to disable all group email notifications by default. This is one of the settings inside your group settings that can be toggled on and off but I think that a great number of new groups will forget or not know to turn that off, so I'm turning it off administratively (i.e., you leave notifications turned on and the system will turn it off again within 5 minutes).
If you feel your group needs to notify its members of each and every post then please send me a Private Message requesting I exclude your group from the list of groups that will have emails disabled and I will evaluate if this will be excessive emailing or not.
It is nice to have email notifications of the various things that happen in the social aspect of this site but there is "nice" and there is "holy crap that's a lot of emails" :).
As the site matures and develops I may remove this feature entirely so this is a stop-gap for now as the email system gets ready to go online.
