One hundred days.  The War of One Hundred Days…  I suppose a ramble is in order, if not in celebration, certainly in debt to this remarkable community.

What have I learned?  What can I share?  What can I pass along?

I learned that smoking is all consuming.  It is selfish.  It is cunning.  It is foul.  It is lethal…

It demands such servitude that, upon quitting, all your senses are raw… Your reactions magnified… Your look wild-eyed… You frantically seek information, and concoct quit strategies…  grope for normality…  The enemy looms so large that you mistakenly seek a complicated arsenal to fight this war.

You can’t begin to understand that quitting could be simple.  That’s right, simple.  Not easy, but simple.

This is what I distilled since that first day...  That I am solely responsible for my quit.  Nobody can make me smoke.  Nobody can stop me from smoking. I am in charge, always…

That there is not a single good reason to smoke.  Not one.  Again, not a single one, ever!

That I can never, ever smoke again.  And this is not a bad thing.  It is good!  That attitude makes a huge difference.   Fear or resent your quit and you will struggle.  Welcome your new commitment and problems will melt away.

Once I understood these things, quitting became simpler, and eventually easy. .

So all I can give you, in return, at 100 days is this:  Simplify.  Be honest.  Be steadfast.  It is worth it.
