Repost: You still think you liked smoking?
I thought I loved smoking - it was my only vice nada nada. I did not love smoking - I loved the relief having a smoke gave me. I am now free- I am not a slave to my addiction and I love it.
Quitting is doable - not always easy but doable.

====================================
Well... you didn`t!
EVER.
This was a huge lesson for me, because that is what I believed for years. For decades... I stubbornly held on to the belief that I loved smoking, and that kept me doing it for years. It turns out it was all a huge misperception. An error.
If you do not believe me, take the test...
Think of something you love. Anything... chocolate, exercise, reading, movies, going out, wine, skiing, swimming, sunbathing... anything.
Ok, then... can you walk away from it for a few days?
Yes, you might miss it. But will you feel barely able to function? Will you start having panic attacks, and headaches, and insomnia, and fatigue, and gas, and tightness in you chest, and irritability, and anger, and memory problems? Huh? Does ANYTHING else have this effect on you?
Could it be that you only ever smoked to hold these symptoms at bay? If you liked it you should be able to walk away from it temporarily... right? So why can`t you? Because perhaps `LIKE` has nothing to do with smoking. And never did!
And where does this feeling of `liking` come from? I think the addiction grows on you so gradually that you mistake relief for enjoyment. It is like stepping into quicksand and thinking... `oooh... that feels good... all warm and squishy... and I can step out any time I like`. And then one day it no longer feels that way and you find yourself trapped up to your waist. And it is diabolically hard to get out. This habit is insiduous, it is sneaky, and we have trouble seeing it for what it really is.
So why do you so stubbornly hang on to the belief that you liked it? After all, that`s not really what was going on.
And guess what? Once you stop believing that you liked it, quitting becomes a lot easier because you no longer feel like you are giving something up. You will feel like you were duped but you are now correcting a problem. A craving does not mean that YOU want the cigarette. It means that something else is compelling you to smoke, but you have the power to decide whether this will happen or not. If you look at it this way, you will not feel deprived by saying no. You will see smoking for what it is... a vicious circle that satisfies the need it creates, robs you of everything and leaves you with nothing of value. A pretty bad deal, don`t you think? Doesn`t that make it a lot easier to refuse it?

Good morning. 4:03am in middle Tennessee. It's currently raining and 46°. We are cloudy with off and on rain predicted. 93% humidity and wind is at 11mph. No sunshine is expected. In spite of the weather it is a good day and a great day to say NOPE. No standing in the rain for me. No smoking here today.

Yesterday I did get all the windows washed on the outside. It was beautifully sunny with 60°. Absolutely enjoyed the task and feeling the warmth of the sun. The SO got his white chicken chili and I must admit it was quite tasty!
Today I think I will start baseboards painting. I am dreading the task but as what usually happens once I get started it won't be as bad as I thought.
Well time to get busy. Might just make a loaf of bread today! Y'all have a fabulous day and as always please be nice be kind today.

Do you think you have it in you to smoke for the rest of your life? Because that is the only alternative. There is no middle ground. And isn't the thought of smoking for the rest of your life far more scary than the thought of quitting? Think about it. Think about where you want to be in 5 years... still smoking? ... or with a 5 year quit behind you? What you do TODAY will determine where you will be then.
You certainly have it in you to quit. We all do. You just have to keep in mind that the discomfort of quitting is TEMPORARY, and more importantly that it was not caused by quitting, but by all your years of smoking. Smoking did all of this to you, including filling you with this irrational need to smoke more. As you abstain from smoking and nicotine releases its grip on you, you will start to feel stronger and to see things more clearly. Quitting is nothing but good. All the bad stuff you experience is no more than the dying gasps of your addiction. Be glad that you have finally reached your quit again.
Congratulations on making such a good decision.

Promised the SO a pot of white chicken chili. Will probably make some cornbread to go with it. Broke out the slow pot and have it going as I write this.
Ya know so far retirement is fun! Getting stuff done slowly but getting it done. Started gathering up necessary documents for filing taxes, got the software and getting ready to get that done.
I am going to have a great day. Hope yours is too! As always please be nice be kind today.
